What and Why - About This Blog

Welcome to my dementia Blog.

If you found these pages you probably either have, or know someone who has, some form of dementia. Probably FTD, but all flavors are welcome. Hopefully you will find something here for you.

When I first started researching dementia all I was able to find on FTD was some general information, and some descriptions of the clinical symptoms. There are several great web sites for that. There is a lot of information on Alzheimer's, but not FTD. What I did not find was much help or account of how those symptoms related to every day life, especially in the early stages of the disease. I did find a couple of other great FTD Blogs which inspired me.

So, I want to chronicle the effects on my everyday life. For instance: I have impaired executive function, apathy, and problems with attention and memory - to name a few. Now, how exactly does that relate to paying my bills, cooking dinner, relationships, shopping, making a pot of coffee, and just doing the day-to-day stuff? How did I cope at work? I also want to chronicle my specific set of symptoms at their current level of severity, and how each effects me at this newly diagnosed stage of the disease.

These are the kinds of subjects I want to address here by giving my personal account of my own experiences.

I may seem disorganized, and skip around. Some posts might not make much sense. Some may be offensive. Some may be funny. Some may seem to be a little off the topic. Well, that is a reflection of what is going on in my head. After all, my brain is slowly turning into Lime Jell-O. That is what these pages are here to chronicle.

As of now my language skills are still in the high to superior range. I still have my slightly warped sense of humor. I do not know how long that will last. I figure I better write this stuff down now as I feel it, because I may not be able to in the future.

Just a quick note about the advertising you may see on my blog pages. I hope they are not too distracting, and may even be of some interest. I have allowed them for about a year now. So far I have made a whopping $26 or so on sales of the books through Amazon, and $104 from people like you clicking on advertisements of interest from Google. That comes out to a little over a dollar for every post I have made. Obviously I am not in this for the money, but the joy I got from cashing that stupid check for a hundred bucks from Google far outweighed the meagre amount. For the record, I splurged, and went grocery shopping! (...and I got Kroozer an extra big bag of his favorite Cheezy-puffs ; )

So I ask you to please help support this blog by clicking a link before you leave, and using the Amazon book link for any Amazon shopping you might have to do.  Thank you in advance for your support.  Every little bit helps.

I hope you find something here of interest. Agree or disagree  - comments are always welcome. Feel free to add your comments. Please refrain from using foul language. I reserve the right to delete any comments for any or no reason, or by accident, if I ever figure out how to actually do it, and I probably never will. There is also an email link in my profile for more sensitive messages.

Thank you for visiting.

  1. Puppies are nice too. And I am sure they would be happy to join you in consuming lime jello. even if it has to be the lousy sugar-free kind. ;-)

  2. I still miss my dog, Logan.

Sam (Samantha) is currently my surrogate ol' dog. I even let her bring her master along with her when she visits. I really wouldn't even try to foist that fake green jello stuff off on a poor unsuspecting dog ; )

  6. Thanks for doing this. I thought about blogging, but I don't have enough motivation. It's nice to actually read things from someone else with bvFTD.
